The hero was Michael A. Monsoor, a 1999 Garden Grove High School graduate and Varsity football player. In 2001, he enlisted in the Navy and completed his training in 2004. To commend his bravery, Monsoor was awarded the highest honor in 2008 by President George W. Bush, the Medal of Honor. In memory of Monsoor, a new stadium at GGHS will be built next fall. An event will be held March 15th at 5 p.m. in front of the GGHS administrative building to celebrate. Along with Monsoor’s family members and parents, board members, GGUSD representatives, members of veterans’ organizations and local civic and elected leaders will also be invited to honor the U.S. Navy SEAL.
“We are going to present the architectural plan to Michael’s family, and this will be an important opportunity to express our gratitude to his family to honor Michael’s heroic action,” says our principal, Mr. Osborne.
Monsoor is also honored in our Heritage Hall along with twenty-four other GGHS graduates who lost their lives fighting for the U.S. Photographs and tokens that remind us of these heroes are on display in a section of the Heritage Hall. In the center, a special plaque lies in honor of Michael A. Monsoor. Heritage Hall is currently under modernization, however, be sure to take a look at the memorial when it is available again![/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
