Issue 5 Sports Updates

Girls Basketball

Recently, Varsity crushed their opponent Valencia (64-44) and JV (48-28). After a couple of losses against Kennedy (39-51), Irvine (31-45), and Westminster (44-48), Varsity won (60-59) against Fountain Valley. Varsity also won 3 of 5 games in a tournament over the break. In the JV Ocean View Tournament, JV suffered two losses, but also two wins. The FS girls worked hard to bring a win home against Valencia (49-12) but unfortunately lost a close game against Westminster (38-41). So far, all three levels are starting off strong defeating LQ: Varsity (50-29), JV (26-13), and Frosh (55-34). Congrats, ladies!

 

Boys Basketball

Varsity is off to a great start. They secured first place in a tournament before the break with wins against Laguna Hills (87-61), El Modena (78-68), Century (50-43), Santa Ana Valley (65-41), and Dana Hills (67-58) . Over winter break, Varsity also participated in the Rancho Alamitos Christmas Tournament and won first place. JV suffered a loss against Irvine (54-58), however they picked themselves up and beat Santa Ana Valley (56-26) and Anaheim (56-55). In a game against Western, they lost (30-61). In the boys’ first season game against La Quinta, Varsity won (68-44), JV lost (39-58), and FS (50-41). Good job, Argos!

 

Girls Soccer

To kick off preseason, Varsity started strong conquering Pioneer (11-1) and Century (6-1). They tied against Segerstrom by (2-2), but beat Western (3-2) and Orange (6-0). They fell short against Rancho (2-4) but pushed even harder to beat Buena Park (4-1) and Magnolia (7-0). JV racked up an easy win streak against Western (1-0), Orange (2-0), and El Rancho (1-0). After that, JV went on to completely dominate Magnolia with a (5-0) scoreline. In their first season game, they swept La Quinta with Varsity winning (10-0) and JV (5-0). Good luck, ladies!

 

Boys Soccer

Varsity has managed to maintain a spectacular undefeated season at (9-0-1). They performed admirably at the Best of the West tournament with wins against Sonora (4-0) and Valley Christian (1-0), as well as a wonderful performance against Orange (6-0). To date ,they’ve only been scored on 9 times! The JV boys had a rough start against Westminster (1-4), but quickly bounced right back up, demolishing Magnolia (5-1). Soon the team lost again to Loara (1-4) and Norwalk (1-3). However with their good defense , they were able to tie with Diamond Bar (3-3). Both levels beat La Quinta with Varsity (10-0) and JV (11-2). Great start, boys!

 

Wrestling

The Varsity girls placed third at the San Clemente Tournament on December 16th; Fernanda de la Cruz (11) and Valeriah Masoe (12) won first place, and Isabel Ortiz (12) won second. These athletes’ hard work and dedication clearly showed when both wrestling teams – boys and girls – dominated in the top three at the co-ed Milikan Duels and Tournament on January 4th. Lalo Jimenez (12), Nathan Tran (12), and Abel Bernal (9) placed first; Javier Gonzales (11) placed second; Joseph Valenzuela (12), Andrew Flores (12), Jalen Mazza (12), and Riley Faria (12) placed third as individuals. Keep on fighting, Argos!

 

Girls Water Polo

Our Varsity Lady Argos finished off preseason strong with five victories! Though they lost against Valencia (4-11), El Segundo (12-4), and Vista Murrieta (5-10), they pulled through and defeated University (11-9), Lakewood (9-7), Arcadia (8-7), Savanna (7-6) and Gahr (16-1). JV had three wins: Torrance (7-6), Godinez (17-1), and Valencia High (6-5). They lost against Montebello (6-12), Lakewood (2-7), El Segundo (2-11), and Santa Monica High School (2-4). In their first season game against La Quinta, Varsity won (15-4), JV (10-0), and Frosh (17-1). Amazing job, Lady Argos!
